"The inspiration behind this song and the composition that went into it. All the pianos, the violins, the somber sad feeling is very blunt yet sentimental. I, personally, think I've been to way too many funerals in my life and lost too many loved ones well before I was ready. Through the crying, the sermons, the last goodbyes...all I could hear is that damn funeral home music and it's burned itself into my brain for the last time. "Epitaphs and Farewells" gives me the opportunity to make my own funeral song, my last goodbye to those I've lost and the closure that I never got to have with those people. I really want the emotions that I felt making this be the same emotions that you feel listening to it. Whether it's just once a day or whenever you feel that weight of mortality weighing down on you. "Little Rebel" is Ashli's way of reconnecting with their roots and finding a little rock and roll amidst the pianos and violins they started their career with in "Luna's Lullaby" and "Epitaphs and Farewells". Ashli drew inspiration from 2000's pop punk for this track, making it feel defiant just like the artist. The cover art for "Little Rebel" comes from Ashli's old checkerboard Vans. Right before heading out to Road to Warped Tour in their native Scranton, Ashli wrote a brazen yet simple message on the end of their shoes in silver and gold; "It was never a f*****g phase". That's how this track felt for Ashli as they put it together from finding the loud drumming to the undercover bass lines, that music is part of their life forever and it will never be a phase.
